The S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie Adopt Cascade Creek
September 1st, 2002The S.O.N.S. (Save Our Native Species) of Lake Erie Fishing Club established the first erosion control project on Cascade Creek with recycled Rip-Rap stone from the old railroad bridge at Front Street and State Street, now known as the Bayfront Parkway at State Street. The value of this project was estimated at approximately $80,000.00 and can be seen at West 8th Street where Cascade passes under the roadway.
Because of the above project and working with Strong Vincent High School students, PA Fish and Boat Commission, the Department of Environmental Protection, Erie County Health Department, and other local businesses, the water quality improved significantly enough to introduce a fishery within the City of Erie. The S.O.N.S. continue to stock Cascade Creek with trout and hold annual clean-ups with local groups to make our city a better place to live, work, and recreate.
