The mission of the Pennsylvania Lake Erie Association is to work for the protection, restoration, enhancement and sustainable development of the Lake Erie watershed in Pennsylvania.

Goals

PLEWA intends to carry out its mission by working towards the following goals:

  1. Help develop, educate and collaborate with sub-watershed associations so that they may engage in effective watershed protection,restoration, and enhancement projects
  2. Promote the adoption and implementation of legislation that protects, restores or enhances the health of the sub-watersheds in the Lake Erie Basin; and oppose legislation and implementation plans that have an adverse affect on the health of the basin.
  3. Facilitate coalition building within the Pennsylvania Lake Erie Watershed and form partnerships with other organizations in Ohio, New York, Michigan, Ontario, and Tribal Nations in the Lake Erie Basin.
  4. Collaborate with researchers in the Lake Erie Basin
  5. Provide long-term organizational and financial support for PLEWA

PLEWA plans to carry out the following specific goals within the next seven years:

  1. Help develop, educate, and coordinate 30 sub-watershed associations
  2. Engage in seven effective watershed protection, restoration, and enhancement projects
  3. Promote the adoption and implementation of a Lake Erie Watershed Conservation Plan in Pennsylvania
  4. Promote the adoption and implementation of Annex 2001
  5. Promote the adoption and implementation of a federal Great Lakes Restoration Act
  6. Participate in seven educational symposiums
  7. Provide organizational and financial support for a semi-annual newsletter, seven watershed projects, and an active Executive Director
